The Sunlight Laundry

When, in the late 19th century, West Yarmouth became a destination for summer vacationers; new industries sprang up to meet the needs of the visitors. One such business was Sunlight Laundry, which later became Cape Cod Laundry. Begun soon after 1900, the laundry provided large-scale laundry services to lodging establishments, as well as to summer visitors and residents. Many village women worked at the laundry -- the younger girls mangling the sheets while the older women ironed the clothing. The laundry still exists, now the home of Princess Cleaners on Route 28.
