COSTUME COLLECTION — Historical Society of Old Yarmouth

OUR COSTUMES AND TEXTILES COLLECTION REVEALS HOW PEOPLE LIVED AND SOCIALIZED IN CENTURIES PAST

The Historical Society of Old Yarmouth's Historic Costumes & Textiles Collection includes over 1200 items ranging from 1820's Regency dresses to a 1950's silk wedding gown; military uniforms, fans, hats and shoes, as well as quilts and needlework. It’s yet another aspect of our mission to collect, preserve and protect historic textiles with a connection to Yarmouth, Cape Cod and Barnstable County and display them in the Captain Bangs Hallet House Museum on a rotating basis or during special exhibits.

The pieces, many donated to the Society through the years, are carefully stored and preserved in a temperature-controlled environment using museum techniques. Recent acquisitions include a 1918 sequined wedding dress, a WWII naval uniform, 1890's silk dresses from the Hall family of Dennis, and an 1870s gold silk gown from the Pulsifer family.

If you have a treasured heirloom garment you would consider donating for preservation, please contact the Society at info@hsoy.org or 508-362-3021.

The Historical Society of Old Yarmouth is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization under the Internal Revenue Code. Gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
