News from the Trails, December 2023:
We are delighted with our new addition to the trails: an outdoor family reading circle! This was the Eagle Scout project of Hugo Wooton and it includes several natural benches and stools made from fallen logs, along with a small free library of children’s books.

You will find this delightful spot on the north side of the Pond Trail, just after the intersection with the west section of the Thacher Trail. Please bring your little ones and enjoy reading the books that are there. Contribute your own used children’s books if you wish. You're also invited to bring your own books to read in the peaceful setting near the pond.

As a reminder: be careful not to stray off HSOY trails as it is still hunting season and hunting is allowed on adjacent properties.

The HSOY Trails Committee is delighted to have this new generation of nature lovers join us in the enjoyment of our trails. Please check out the new story spot when you are next on the Pond Trail near the cemetery. Feel free to use it to rest with your family and friends whenever the nursery school is not there. Enjoy the hike!

OVER 50 ACRES OF TRAILS OPEN FROM DAWN TO DUSK, YEAR-ROUND

Open to all, our Nature Trails, owned entirely by HSOY, offer a way to stretch your legs in pleasant surroundings and get away from civilization for a while. Plus there are benches strategically placed along the way.

A former golf course, the land was donated to the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth by the Perera family, descendants of Henry C. Thacher, a prominent citizen and philanthropist. They are to be maintained and preserved as natural habitat forever. Our handy Trails Map will guide you and new signage was installed in 2020.

You'll find the trail head at the Tufts Gatehouse, the small building on the lane next to and behind the Yarmouth Port Post Office. All we ask is that you carry out what you bring in, clean up after your pets and remember, all dogs must be on a leash on our property. The Town of Yarmouth Leash Law states:
*All dogs must be restrained on a leash when off the owner's property. This is for the safety of your pet as well as the community. Any owner or keeper who fails to restrain his/her dog shall be subject to a fine.*

Donations for trail upkeep are appreciated and may be left in the slot in the gatehouse door, or made online in any amount.

Our handy Trail Guides will open in PDF format, which you can print.

Have you seen our Little Free Library yet? Next to the Gatehouse near the trailhead, local scout troops 50 and 150 built and installed this little library for us in June 2021. We’ll be adding titles along with Yarmouth Port Library. Feel free to take a book or leave one you’d like to share.
