HISTORY, AS CAPTURED each month
IN ARTICLES IN THE YARMOUTH REGISTER

What happens when a ship sinks at sea—and there isn't enough room in the lifeboats for all the passengers and crew? What happens to the survivors when the food runs out?

Did the good, upstanding people of the Cape have anything to do with various illegal activities during Prohibition?

And why did early colonists build so many taverns in such close proximity to places of worship?

These are the kinds of things members of the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth wondered about. So in 1972 they began satisfying their curiosity, researching and writing articles for the Yarmouth Register on virtually every aspect of the life and times of the people who settled and lived here, uncovering interesting facts not often found in most history books.

They haven't quit yet. To date they have researched and published more than 350 articles.

Browsing through our extensive Collection of Register Articles doesn't just open windows into the past, it reveals fascinating details of life in this region, capturing the activities and proclivities—the good and the questionable—of local residents of the day.

This is history told straight, illuminating without embellishment.
